Virginia Reader's Choice Program

Read, Vote, and Earn Rewards!

Fox Mill Virginia Readers’ Choice Program

Fox Mill Elementary School participates in the Virginia Readers’ Choice (VRC) program to encourage all of our students to read.

Students must read a book from the VRC program list and complete a summary form for the book to be considered “read”. Books are available for check out in the school library. The summary form is also available in the school library. The deadline to complete and submit forms for the 2019-2020 school year is Friday, April 17, 2020.

Students who read 4 or more books receive a certificate of accomplishment and their parents are eligible for a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card. They are also invited to a party during the school day on Friday, April 24, during which they will vote for their favorite books. Their votes are counted with votes from schools across the state to determine VRC winners.

Our VRC wall in the school library features the photos of students who read at least 10 books. The parents of those students are eligible for a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.

For more information about the Fox Mill VRC program, contact the Fox Mill ES Librarian, Sarah Slusher.

About the Virginia Readers’ Choice (VRC) Program

The Virginia Readers’ Choice (VRC) program, sponsored by the Virginia State Reading Association, is intended to encourage young readers to become better acquainted with contemporary books with outstanding literary appeal; to broaden students’ awareness of literature as a life-long pleasure; to encourage reading aloud in classrooms as a means of introducing reading for pleasure; and to honor favorite books and their authors.

As part of the program, the Virginia State Reading Association publishes a list of recommended books for primary, elementary, middle school, and high school students each school year. Students who read a minimum of four books from the list are eligible to vote for their favorites. The votes are tallied across the state and winners announced.
